The Contemporary Dance syllabus in standards 1, 2 and 3 are intended for use with KS3 as an introduction to this style of dance are also appropriate and can add value to KS4 courses.
The syllabus includes links easy to follow videos that demonstrate the exercises and then you, the teacher, will assess your students against the comprehesive assessment criteria provided. This criteria has been written with KS3 'assessing without levels' in mind so ideal for use in schools.
You will asses your dancers on each exercise and each standard is graded Unclassified. Pass, Merit and Distinction and Distinction *. There are five short exercises to master as part of the three foundation standards alongside a teacher created amalgamation (this can be created from the exercises, set pharses, set studies, repertoire or be teacher choreographed).
You will assess the exercises when you think they are ready and once the dancers have achieved above a Pass you can print, complete and present them with a certificate. This could be Standard 1 in Year 7, Standard 2 in Year 8 and Standard 3 in Year 9. Once all the exercises have been mastered these can easily be joined together to create a full body warm up to use before any KS4 practical class or to prepare dancers for performance.
